Why do we wear white?

Until about 1840, brides wore their best dress to get married, Queen Victoria started the  white wedding dress trend in 1840.

 

Why do we wear our wedding bands on the third finger on our left hands?

Engagement and wedding rings are worn on the fourth finger of the left hand because it was once thought that a vein in that finger led directly to the heart.

 

What does a sapphire in the wedding ring symbolize?

A sapphire symbolizes marital happiness. In Victorian times when it became popular to write a message in a line of set stones, sapphires were the 'S' in the DEAREST rings (Diamond, Emerald, Amethyst, Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire, and Topaz)

Ancient Greeks and Romans thought the veil protected the bride from evil spirits. Brides have worn veils ever since. Especially when celebrating your Florida beach wedding, veils look stunning outdoors against the beautiful beach setting - romantic and stylish.

Our record is 3 hours! We were contacted at lunchtime and the wedding took place that afternoon! As long as all the paperwork is in order - we at Suncoast weddings will do everything to try and make your dreams come true!

 

Why are wedding cakes tiered?

Long ago, there was a game where the bride and groom attempted to kiss over an ever-higher cake without knocking it over. Now it is popular to have stacked or tiered cakes. We like the twist on the theme with tiers of cupcakes too!

 

Why does the best man stand to the left of the groom?

Long ago, a groom had to be ready with his sword arm to fight off other suitors so he could marry his beautiful bride. His best man would be there to support him in his efforts. Thankfully we can all be a bit more relaxed now - especially at the beach!

 

Why do we carry a bouquet?

Herbs like garlic and rosemary were carried by Early Roman brides under their veils to symbolize fidelity and fertility and to ward off evil. Will you have a flower girl?

Flower girls traditionally threw fresh petals in the path of the bride to signify a plentiful future. If Suncoast weddings are already providing an aisle of fresh petals and you have a flower girl, we can make sure we have petals of a different color so she can see what a great job she does.

 

Thinking of wearing yellow? (Don't!)

In some countries, a yellow wedding dress has traditionally been seen as a sign of a wife’s intention to cheat on her husband or of jealousy. In all of our albums - we have not a single Suncoast Weddings bride who wore yellow ... phew!

 

How many people will celebrate with you?

An average wedding in the United States has 175 guests ... at Suncoast weddings we have ceremonies ranging from just the 2 newlyweds to 100 plus guests. Our average is probably 10-15 guests and sometimes family and friends come from around the world to gather in this lovely part of Florida to celebrate a special wedding. It's like a wedding, honeymoon and family holiday all in one!
